• What is Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP)?

Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy is a holistic modality in which ketamine is used as a complement to psychotherapy to help clients experience more rapid breakthroughs and sustained improvements in their mental health. You can get relief from your symptoms for a number of conditions including depression, anxiety, PTSD, eating disorders, compulsive disorders, suicidality and more. KAP can be supportive for end-of-life care by lessening a fear of death in terminally ill patients.

  • What is Ketamine?

Ketamine is a legal, safe and effective medicine used by medical providers as an anesthetic for more than 50 years. Today, it is also used to treat a variety of mental health conditions such as depression, anxiety, PTSD and many others. Ketamine has rapidly-acting antidepressant and mood-enhancing effects. It can be taken with other psychiatric medicines and when combined with psychotherapy can create powerful lasting results when other traditional interventions fail.

  • What is unique about KAP?

While there are clinics that provide ketamine infusions, most of them lack therapeutic support before, during and after the treatment. This substantially undermines the effects of ketamine and often leave the clients feeling confused and not having processed their experiences.

I will be there with you from the beginning till the completion of the process. We will have several preparatory sessions for us to establish a therapeutic alliance so you can feel comfortable – our minds need to feel safe in order to surrender to the experience and to get the full benefit from the medicine. During those first sessions we will also get clear on your intentions and desires from KAP. A session that includes medicine will last 2-3 hours and the main focus will be on therapy. Subsequent integration session(s) will help you understand and process your experience while you will be guided in how to anchor your new realizations into your daily life to make those changes lasting.

It is important to keep in mind that ketamine is not a panacea, but rather a powerful transformative tool that combined with therapy can create a disruption of unhealthy behaviors and allow you to tap into your strengths. Ketamine-assisted therapy can help you accelerate on your healing journey.

  • Practical Points about KAP:

    - If we decide to work together, I will refer you to a medical team I work with to be assessed for eligibility.

    - If you are currently in therapy, with your permission, I will collaborate with your therapist to make sure you receive the best care possible.

    - 3 preparatory therapy sessions are required prior to the initial KAP session.

    - Initial KAP session is 3 hours, the subsequent sessions will take 2-2.5 hours, and can be done virtually from the comfort of your home or in my home office located in Rockland County, NY.

    - KAP session is followed by 1-2 integration sessions.

    - Depending on your symptoms and needs, 1 or 2 KAP sessions can be sufficient, however most commonly and especially for treatment resistant depression, a series of 4-6 sessions are needed with subsequent occasional maintenance sessions.

    - My hourly rate is $250. Sliding fee is available in case of a financial need, please contact me directly to discuss.

    - I am an out of network provider and will provide a superbill so you can seek the reimbursement directly from your insurance.
